Waterfront

Now, because Lisbon is more than the 7 hills... Yes, there is more, on the the riverside, let me explain from Expo to Cascais:

- Expo, they rebuilt this area in 98 for the Exp o event, really nice for a walk, run or cycling, or just to take the cable car if you don't feel like walking. Here you also have Casino Lisboa if you're feeling lucky. In case you're into animals you may wanna go to Oceanário.

- Praça do Comércio or Terreiro do Paço, not sure why they have different names but check Chagas Hill page for more details

- Cais do Sodré, you also have a Portugália he re. This is one of the main points to travel to outside Lisbon. You may wanna take the boat "Cacilheiro" that ends up in Cacilhas and have the best seafood, go to Cabrinha or Farol and you won't be disappointed! If you like that area take the bus to Cristo Rei (yes it looks like the one in Brazil but ours is oldest). From there you may also catch a bus to the beaches of Costa da Caparica or just take the train back, through the bridge and leave in Campolide to see "Aqueduto das Águas Livres". Or leave at Jardim Zoológico for the zoo.

- Merendeira - best place to have food after going out, ask for Caldo Verde (soup) and Pão com Chouriço (bread with chorizo inside) both Portuguese typical food

- Docas, nice area for h aving dinner. Try Doca Peixe for grilled fish or Mercearia Vencedora for really good picanha (brazilian typical dish) in case they're full go to one of the italians and then have a beer at Irish and co or an ice cream on the first caffe at your right when you enter in Docas

- LX Factory, one of the most trendy places nowadays, go to Rio Maravilha for the view and a drink but don't have food there, to eat you may go to Sushi Factory, Pizzaria A Mesa or A Praça for typical and also modern tapas, if you go there ask the Scrambled eggs (ovos mexidos com farinheira). For desert and coffee have a cake at Bolo da Marta (yes Marta's cake

again!) inside the cool bookshop Ler Devagar. To go there is a new place called Bosq, with commercial and Latin music but quite small so go early!

- MAAT (Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology) is our little baby, check for exhibitions before but even if you don't go inside take a walk next to it and have a drink during sunset at Sud Lisboa

- Museu da Electricidade - big brick building is the electricity museum and also holds some temporary exhibitions

- Museu dos Coches - if you're looking for something different go here, never heard of any other place with these cars except for the Mews close to Buckingham Palace. This place is new and from what I have been told is not as pretty as the previous one but as I remember from the old museum the coches are magnificent!

- Palácio de Belém - unfortunately you can only visit the gardens in a specific day in the summer but this os where out president lives and not to far from it you have the very famous pasteis de Belém. After you eat these you'll see all the ones they sell abroad have no comparison. You may queue or look for a table inside.

- if you have lunch nearby go to Bem Belém and ask for Arroz de Polvo (octopus rice) or go to Descobre (a more fancy restaurant but worth it, go for the duck). For a quick sandwich choose Pao Pao Queijo Queijo

- Jardins de Belém are really nice for a rest after visiting Mosteiro dos Jerónimos, UNESCO patrimony

- at the back, up in the hill, yes another hill... you have Palácio da Ajuda, our little "Buckingham Palace", really beautiful if you like palaces, usually with very interesting temporary art exhibitions and also with a nice different view

- next to it you have Museu da Marinha and Planetário in case you're interested but I have not much to say about them

- CCB (Cultural Centre of Belém) nice for a coffee in the last floor, it also holds exhibitions of Berardo, one of the richest man in Portugal, from Madeira, I usually like them so give it a try

- Padrão dos Descobrimentos, not worth to go inside, I would say, but take some time to look at all the statues, the one in front os Vasco da Gama, also look on the floor and see the map of the Portuguese discoveries

- between Padrão dos Descobrimentos and Torre de Belém you have the best restaurant ever! A Feitoria, by the Michelin star Chef João Rodrigues

- airplane statue about the first air cross of the south Atlantic done by Gago Coutinho and Sacadura Cabral

- Torre de Belém nothing special inside but it's so pretty isn't it? It means a lot to us, that's where all the discoveries started!

- Centro Champalimaud - ultimate place for research in neuroscience, also where you have the fancy restaurant Darwin, ask for the Risotto or stay for a drink and enjoy the view to the bridge

- Carcavelos, one of the biggest beaches close to Lisbon, if you see some... and with direct access to it there is Nova SBE ! The school where I did all my studies, unfortunately (or not) in another location, check here and tell me which one you prefer

- Estoril, here you have the biggest Casino in Europe, yes it is true!

- Cascais, go to Santini (if you did not do it in Baixa) or to Mercearia Vencedora (if you did not do it in Docas) and visit Boca do Inferno (mouth of hell)
