Talking Brains, CosmoCaixa Barcelona, 2017.
I am a Professor at the Centre for Cognitive Sciences of the University of Neuchâtel.
My current work lies in the interdisciplinary field of pragmatics, which explores language and communication from a cognitive perspective.
I have recently completed the project "Pragmatics meets epistemic vigilance: Explaining the development of irony comprehension" (2020-2026) sponsored by a SNSF Eccellenza Grant.
Starting in 2027, I will co-lead the SNSF-funded projet "Individual differences in epistemic vigilance: From attachment to pragmatics" with Alessandro Talia (University of Lausanne).
I am also a member of the NCCR Evolving Language. In this context, I work on storytelling and the role of language in fostering human hypercooperation.
JOHN: Because it is the essence of human communication. I say something conventional, and the information we exchange is not about the "weather", but that we both agree to converse. In effect, we agree that we are both human.
