You might wonder why someone like me, who studies military technology, is interested in old typewriters and sewing machines. This is probably the most fascinating part of my research: while working on my doctoral dissertation, I came to fully appreciate the importance of the Second Industrial Revolution and what it really entailed. This also meant realizing that typewriters and sewing machines are indeed connected to military technology.
