About Matt & Sarah

Matt was the driving force behind Whirl & Twirl Round Dance Club in Cambridgeshire and Suffolk and as such has become the public face of the club. Much of its success and standing within the UK is down to his inventiveness, passion and enthusiasm.

Now Matt has moved just outside Sheffield to a village called Todwick and has decided to bring Round Dancing to Sheffield and the surrounding villages.

Matt took up the microphone under the tutelage of the Harts and took to it like a duck to water. Just a year later in 2010 he was awarded 'The Harry Preston Award' for the most improved Cuer and followed it in March 2011 with his ECTA Accreditation. Early in 2019 Matt was awarded a Long Service Award from the Round Dance Council (UK)

Over the eight years he has led Whirl and Twirl to ever improving events including The UK Round Dance Festival bringing some of the best cuers in the world to the UK.

He has been fully committed to furthering Rounds in the UK and as such has been involved in the work of the UK Round Dance Council as well as the SDCCGB, BAASDC, GSI and Northern Area committees. Over the last few years he has made a number of appearances in Europe and in Early 2020 will be appearing in the Blue Mountains, NSW, Australia.

Sarah started Square Dancing in 1992 along with her Sister, Mum and Dad. She graduated in 1993 and soon was out there on the dance circuit, In no time at all she was hooked.

Her family decided to start a new Square Dance club in 1994 and “Sheffield Gemini Squares” was formed. This highly successful family run club with Emma (Sarah’s sister calling) has been running now for over 22 successful years growing from strength to strength.

Over the years I have danced all over the UK, taking part in dance festivals and many weekends. I have also attended special dance weekends in Germany and Gran Canaria.

I enjoy all levels of dancing from Basic to A2. Through dancing I have had the opportunity to meet lots of new people and make so many new friends along the way. It’s wonderful to know fellow dancers from all over the world, who dance purely for the same fun and friendship as I do.
