Moral Reasons and Generalities
The particularist beginning thesis is about the non-existence of moral generalities. It turns out that the focus of particularism is the investigation of reasons' activity. The outcome is a puzzle about how to link the nature of reasons (Dancy's holism) and reasons as facts (Practical Reality) to moral generalities. At the Bled conference (whose proceedings are published in Challenging Moral Particularism book, edited by Potrc, Strahovnik and Lance) people practically agreed about the need to involve generalities. But what kind? Hedged principles? There were lots of proposals. Dancy himself did not step forward and did not decide. How to relate specific views of reasons' activities to generalities? The question is whether this should suceed in direction of particularism.
