Why should I hire a physics teacher as a tutor, rather than a high achieving high school or college student for a lot less?

• Scientific research has shown that one of the most daunting challenges facing science students is the misconceptions they bring to the classroom.  It is impossible for a student to master the subject when they have deep seated misconceptions about the fundamental principles of science. 

  • An experienced science teacher has taught thousands of students, and has the experience to elicit and recognize a wide range of student misconceptions, as well as the tools, strategies, and hands on demonstrations that are known to be effective in dispelling them.

• Most people think that achieving high grades in a physics class is about mastering “Problem Solving”

  • An experienced science teacher knows that no class of physics problem can be solved successfully on a repeatable basis unless the student first understands the fundamental principles underlying the problem, and knows how to apply them correctly. WHY?

    • Because, one change in the initial conditions of a problem can eliminate one problem solving technique and require another - based on the fundamental principles underlying the problem.

  • An experienced science teacher has the tools and strategies to

    • simplify and clarify fundamental principles for students,

    • help students identify which scientific principle underlie the problems they are confronted with,

    • apply the correct problem solving strategies for that underlying principle

Do you do Virtual meetings, or will you come to our home?

• After Covid, all of my appointments are Virtual, via ZOOM

What if I have to cancel an appointment?

• Please notify me at least 24 hours in advance.

When are tutoring sessions offered?

• Tutoring sessions are scheduled weekday afternoons and evenings, with a few slots available on the weekends.

What if my student needs extra time at the end of a session?

• ALL session times are flexible. Please request a session length you believe your child needs (one hour is standard), but if we are "done" early, I will only charge for the time spent with your child.

• Tutoring sessions can usually be extended in 10 minute increments, often up to 30 minutes, or even  an hour depending on my next scheduled session.
