MEXT (Monbukagakusho) Scholarship (University Recommendation) 2016

Students who are interested to apply for MEXT (Monbukagakusho) Scholarship under University Recommendation for 2016, please follow the instruction.

Before shipping, all the application documents listed below should be sent by email first to be checked in advance by January 6, 2016. Please send to <ryugaku@jaist.ac.jp> with the Subject <MEXT (Monbukagakusho) Scholarship (University Recommendation) 2016 Application>. State your intended supervisor/area too (if you have identified one) in the content of your email.

Please send all the documents (refer attachment) via courier delivery (such as DHL, FedEX, or EMS) after you receive an e-mail confirmation of approval of your documents from us. The parcel must reach JAIST by January 18, 2016.

  1. Application Form (use 1 Application.doc) - * 2 sheets, both side printing.
  2. Field of Study and Study Program（use 2 Field of Study and Study Program.doc) -* both side printing.
  3. Certificate of Citizenship or a copy of applicant's family register
  4. Letter of Recommendation from a person equivalent to or higher position than Dean of faculty at the applicant's university (3 Letter of Recommendation.doc) -* This Letter must be addressed to President of JAIST. * If recommenders do not use this form, any format is acceptable, provided that the contents on the form are included.
  5. Two photos (Upper half of body, facing camera, without a hat or any material covering your head and face, taken in the past 6 months, (4.5 cm long × 3.5 cm wide)- * Applicant's name and nationality should be written in block letters on the back of the photos, and either one of the two is pasted on the application form.
  6. Original transcript issued by the university from which the applicant graduated (the latest one) - * It should indicate semester and grading system at the university. * If the period of the latest transcript is less than 2 years, please submit the transcript from both the present and previous universities together.
  7. Original certificate of (expected) graduation or a copy of diploma (the latest one)
  8. Academic performance indicating that the applicant belongs to the highest group in the most recent university (e.g, GPA, the applicant's order in the ranking)
  9. Abstracts of a dissertation or papers
  10. Score Certificate of TOEFL, TOEIC, or IELTS and Score Certificate of Japanese Language Proficiency Test, if any
  11. PLEDGE (fill out 4 PLEDGE.doc）
  12. A copy of passport

Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2016: Application deadline for applicants via e-mail

Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016: Application deadline for intended supervisors

Monday, Jan. 18, 2016: Application deadline for applicants via courier delivery

Late Jan. 2016: Complete screening by academic record

Late Jan. 2016: Decision of recommendation order by the Dean and Vice-President

Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2016: Approval of the candidates by Committee on Education and Research
