Tournament Info

Overview:

What are tournaments?

Tournaments (also referred to as invitationals) are hosted by other university club teams as a part of the Tennis on Campus program. We compete against other club teams in a World Team Tennis Format. While the majority of invitationals are scheduled for fall semester, the USTA Tennis on Campus Sectional and National Championships both take place during spring semester.

What is World Team Tennis?

In each match there will be a men's and women's singles, a men's and women's doubles, and a mixed doubles match. Each match is a 6 game set with no ad scoring. The team who accumulates the most games by the end of the mixed doubles match wins the match.

Who can participate in tournaments?

Tournaments are open to all players on the club roster who want to participate. We will select 4 players each for men and women based on ladder position. If we can bring an additional B team, we will select 10 players each for men and women.

What do I need to bring?

Just your usual tennis gear, money for food, and a positive attitude! All expenses for the tournament, transportation, and hotel will be covered by the club.

What can I expect at a tournament?

If the location of the tournament is no more than 60-90min away we will leave from College Park, the morning of the tournament. If the tournament is farther and requires a hotel we will leave sometime Friday and stay overnight at a hotel on Friday and Saturday night. After a fun day of competing on the court that usually finishes up in the late afternoon we will get a team dinner, hang out for the rest of the night, and bond as a team.

Anything else to look forward too?

In the fall there are Sectional Championships for the 8 different sections in the US. The top teams from each section compete at the National Club Tennis Championships in April. For more info click here
