Spring 2024 Courses

PH 121 SMGeneral Physics I
Mechanics of linear and rotational motion, oscillations, and waves, using vectors and calculus. The sequence of PH 121 and PH 122 fulfills the requirements of students who are majoring in physics, chemistry, or mathematics. This sequence is a prerequisite for all physics courses of higher number. Two lectures and one tutorial and laboratory period per week.

HON/PH 127 SMPhysics by Inquiry
An introduction to scientific inquiry through studying fundamental physical models. We will construct and test these models primarily through laboratory investigation. Additional emphasis is placed on the history of experimental sciences and the interplay between inductive and deductive analyses in the natural sciences. A Scientific Methodologies designated course.

HON 493Honors Project
An independent study in preparation or completion of the Honors capstone. All Honors projects require a proposal, a faculty advisor, and the approval of the Harrison Honors Committee. The Honors Project typically begins the spring of the junior year or the fall of senior year. Honors projects entail one-on-one collaboration with faculty advisors and must be defended in public.

PH 410Research in Physics
Advanced guided inquiry in a subject (theoretical, computational, or experimental) selected by the student in consultation with a member of the physics faculty. Requirements include a paper written in the style of a scientific journal article and an oral presentation to students and faculty.
