Roman bottles with a folded lip.
This pensic I asked Master Ali (Arab Boy) to show me how to do a folded lip. I took some instruction from him on how to open the bottle so that the lip was folded inward making a smooth rim as seen in the photos. This procedure finished the lip without having to fire polish it making the process faster once you understand the jack movements so that you can go on to the decoration. I am still working on the lip but have tried some decoration only to have it fail horrible. Normally this bottle in period would have taken 3 heats, one for the bubble and first shape, one after transfer and one for the decoration. Most of the bottle I have made have taken 4 to 6 heats, 2 to 3 for the bubble initial shape and 2 to 3 for the opening. If the opening is done in one heat is a better opening. I have done it a few times but need more practice.
