Owing to circumstances beyond my control, bacterial strains and plasmids are no longer available. Please contact the E. coli Genetic Stock Center which may be able to help you with bacterial strains. Addgene may be able to provide plasmids.

Strain GM2929 is sent most frequently to researchers. It has the characteristics that are asked for the most, viz., it has mutations in the dam and dcm genes, it is recombination-deficient ( recF) and does not restrict incoming DNA.

Strains with complete deletions of the mutH(KM55), mutL (KM52) and mutS (KM75) genes now available.

A dam-4 strain lacking amber suppressor mutations. Carries lacZ118 which allows for visual detection of dam deficiency. On lactose MacConkey medium forms white colonies with extensive red papillae after two days incubation at 37 C. Few papillae are formed in colonies of the wt strain. Good host strain for propagation of bacteriophages.
