Our precious momma Rosie turns 9 today! Marigold Rose of Alabamy CGC CCA
I absolutely don’t believe there is a better mother on the planet…..even with her kids grown up. Thank you so much Deborah and Blair for entrusting your little girl to us. Our visits to Prince Edward Island were priceless, and we brought back a true gem.
From beginning to today…….

This past weekend we attended the Moncton Dog Show. Marigold Spiritual Rayne (daughter of Spirit and Winchester, January 2020) earned a 3rd, and two 2nd’s in her class, with one Reserve Winners Female. Her son, Zuko, took five Best Altered in Breed, five Bedt Altered in Group, finishing off with a Best Altered in the Maritime Golden Retriever Speciality. This photo is with the (Australian judge Janelle Robbin’s) who judged the Speciality). They both showed beautifully, and beyond proud of both. Yesterday was a down day, they slept the entire day…
Thank you Deborah for trusting in me with my beautiful girl Rayne!!

Some of you might know Abby, our 3 yr old Golden Retriever from PEI. She joined the household during Covid at 7 weeks of age and brought with her a whole world of fun, energy, love and mischief - along with some qualities we never expected.
Her best buddy since Day One was Gaffer, our male outdoor cat. Abby and Gaffer smooch every time I let Abby out onto the deck in the morning, and when Abby is feeling "hard done by", (like when I have other things to do), Gaffer will come along and lick her on the forehead. They act like an old married couple, doing everything together. A good day for Abby is when she can provoke Gaffer enough to make him chase her around the property. Yes! The cat chases the dog!
Abby brightened our days as we went through the last years of my husband Jim's illness (d. Mar 8, 2024). When he was having a hard day, Abby would lay her head on his chest, across his legs, or wherever she sensed that it would help . . . and she has remained faithfully by my side during our grieving process. I had left Jim's favourite sweater on his side of the bed for Abby and our indoor cat Magic to have for comfort. They each took turns snuggling it for a few weeks. After a couple of months, all the furry members of the family began to realize that "Dad" was gone.
Recently, Abby's protective instinct has ramped up. We live in the middle of a wildlife wonderland, and never know when we might meet up with a bear or moose, coyote or fox, porcupine, ground hog or raccoon. Our long and winding driveway seems tailor made for wildlife travel. One day, as we started out for our morning walk, we had only rounded the first turn at the bottom of the driveway when Abby stopped, sniffing the air and the ground. She wouldn't go any further, even at my urging. When I asked if she thought we should turn around and go home, that's exactly what she did! First time ever, in over 3 years of walks! Later that day we set out again up the driveway and found, not far from where we had stopped before, evidence of Black Bear (scat). But the bear was long gone.
There was one more time when we had to turn back home again because, in Abby's opinion, it wasn't safe. Yes, it was the bear again - but this time it had torn up some ant hills along the driveway.
So by now I'm beginning to feel amazingly comfortable and protected by this golden girl. She's not going to let anything happen to me if she can help it!
One night we were finally settling for sleep. Abby had finished with her barking ritual outside in the enclosure, and was satisfied that all the varmints had run for their lives.. But all of a sudden she leaped off the bed barking louder and "snortier" than I had ever heard. I had no choice but to let her outside again where she barked and barked in all four corners of the enclosure. It must have been the bear - or a whole herd of bears, by the way she was barking! Finally, about 15 minutes later, we're back inside, both settling for sleep on the bed. Abby comes up and sits beside my shoulder, looking down at me. Then she places her paw gently on my chest, and then the other paw, and finally she lay her head down, making sure that Mom knew that she would always be kept safe from whatever dangers lurked outside in the night. She did exactly the same thing after a particularly loud thunderstorm - putting one paw then the other on my chest and resting her head on me, as if to say "I'll always be here for you, Mom."
I've never experienced a bond like this with any other pet - and we've had several dogs and cats over the years. I know that many of you who may read this will have bonded with a special pet very deeply, maybe so deeply that it felt that you were touching souls. I have no other way of describing it. I just consider it a gift that I've been given, for which I can never express enough thanks. And especially to Deborah Fraser of Marigold Golden Retrievers.
I only hope that with the help of family and friends, I can give Abby the life she deserves - surrounded by love and family, lots of dog friends and human friends, and endless adventures!

Deborah, I wanted to let you know Dunchamp doing so well and is the best buddy I’ve ever had…he comes everywhere with me. Here’s a picture of him earlier this week on the waterfront, we always get so many compliments from passerby’s about how handsome he is. He’s so special.

Hi Deborah and Blair, Deena is the light of our family. She is growing quickly but is smart and cuddly girl. She has a large dog bed as well as her kennel but loves to sleep in her toy basket when we're in the kitchen. We love her and appreciate your good care. We are so grateful to have beautiful Deena in our family.

Just a little note to say hello and to inform you Maisy is doing very well. She is such a good, calm, beautiful smart dog. We were at a family gathering this past Saturday and she was adorable with everybody. She met and played with 14 new people with no issues. We love her so much. What a great addition to our family.
