Marco Polo Quilters Guild regularly supports local charities either by cash donations or gifts of quilts. Recipients in the past have included Hospice Saint John, YM/YWCA, Hestia House, Seniors Outreach, Safe Harbour, Saint John School Milk Fund, The Joshua Group and others.
Each year a three day retreat is held for members at the Villa Madonna in Rothesay, NB. The registration fee includes your room (if staying overnight) and meals. There are generally two or three pop up shops from local quilt stores for your shopping pleasure!
The New Brunswick Contemporary Quilt Award (NBCQA) is a biennial juried award that recognizes and acquires a modern New Brunswick quilt for the New Brunswick Museum's collection. The Marco Polo Quilters Guild and the New Brunswick Museum collaborate on this award. The next call for submissions is likely to be announced in the fall of 2025, as the award is presented every two years. The most recent call for entry was in 2023.
Key Information:
Purpose: To acquire a modern New Brunswick quilt for the NBM collection.
Biennial: The award is presented every two years.

Past Deadlines: The 2019 deadline was November 4, 2019. The 2023 deadline was in the fall.
Jury: A jury of five members selected by the MPQG and NBM reviews submissions.
Selection Process: Initial selection is made from photographs, with finalists contacted for quilt delivery.
Finalists: Finalists’ quilts may be at the Marco Polo Quilt Fair.
Award Presentation: The winner is announced and the award presented at the Marco Polo Quilt Fair Gala.
A Quilt and Fibre Art Show is held every two years with the most recent being in 2024. That show was titled "Stitches in Time" and was a wonderful success and enjoyed by many.
On opposite years, a Spring Tea is held to honour our founding members and to welcome new members who have joined over the previous two years.
