REFLEXOLOGY TREATMENT :

It is typically suggested that a new client start with 3 treatments a week apart then discuss how they have found the treatment with the reflexologist and plan further treatments as required. Sometimes the client will experience almost immediate relief or improvement and most will notice an improvement during the course of the first 3 treatments. During the first consultation the reflexologist will discuss the clients medical history to get a picture of the whole individual. Treatment will then usually begin with a warm footbath (usually with lemon though other oils or essences may be used depending on the condition and needs of the client). This helps the client to relax and release stress. Next a short foot massage relaxes the feet and accustoms the client to the reflexologists touch. This is particularly helpful if the client is ticklish as pressure and contact can be varied for best comfort. The reflexologist then systematically works through the pressure points on the soles and tops of the feet, the toes and the ankles. The pressure used is firm but generally not uncomfortable. Certain points may feel tender or sore and the client advises the reflexologist of this. At certain points the reflexologist may feel signs of congestion (hard or lumpy or 'crunchy' feeling). Pressure and/or massage is applied to the trouble spots to encourage the natural healing mechanisms. After the session the reflexologist will mark up the identified problem areas on a chart and discuss their significance with the client. Appointments are typically 1 hour. At the end of a session clients generally feel very relaxed and peaceful.
