Please use this Shared spreadsheet with information regarding common attribute values for mapping types of roads in Nepal. This will help to set reasonable values to road attributes.

Before starting draw roads:

  • Zoom in to at-least when bottom left scale shows "200ft/ 50m" to draw rural roads or "100ft/ 20m" to draw city roads.

  • Start from the main road and fan out

  • Starting and ending point or roads must touch the other roads to complete the route.

While drawing roads:

    • If you are drawing your first road, draw one or two roads and check if moderators have anything to say to improve your edits before venturing into road making spree.

    • Check the extents of the road you are about to draw.

    • While drawing corners of a road, try to mark at least 3 or 4 points

    • Don't mark unnecessary points in the middle of straight roads

    • Start at the main road and continue to mark one road

    • Don't wander and mark more than one road at a time

    • Look for similar road types in other cities and study before drawing new roads, to make sure that you draw the roads in less number of steps.

    • Don't leave the Speed limit value at default 50, if unsure put in 30 for speed limit. Improperly set speed values are the reason behind GMM suggesting you to use a narrow road (galli) instead of a main road for road directions.

Important: After you draw a road - please take time to select a small segment at both of the extremities and try Edit entire road and verify that the whole road selected is the one you intended to make a single road !

Use the "Directions" tool to find route from one end of the road to the another road, if GMM is not able to find the correct route you intended to get, that means there's some mistake in the road drawn - like disconnected ends of roads.
