Camera/Video/Electronic Rules

National High School rules state that you cannot use any electronic device within the competitive area. NO cell phones, NO MP3 players. The ruling will be to be disqualified. If you are in an area using a device, and you aren’t competing, your team member who is competing will be penalized.

Video taping is permitted as long as viewing is done at home. The use of video tape at a meet is consid-ered an aid to the athlete, the penalty is disqualification. If you show the video to anyone on the team it is a viola-tion.

A few Checklist Items:

1. Bring a lock and use it in the locker room to keep your stuff safe.

2. Bring clothes to go outside in all weather conditions.

3. If you get hurt see the trainer. There are trainers at all meets, take a buddy with you, tell your coach.

4. If you leave with your parents at a meet you must sign out with your area coach. This transfers responsibility.

5. Junior High Students; When you arrive at the high school change quickly and go to your coach, you have a limited time to practice. Be polite and don’t run around in the school. There is a late bus at 5:00 pm. that leaves from door “D” (cafeteria). When you cross the street use the crosswalk at the light! There are acci-dents that happen in front of the school, do not cause one! On “away” meet days, we will come pick you up at the junior high if you are competing in the meet. If it is a home meet you will take the activities bus to the high school as though it was practice. After meets, buses will always return athletes to the high school only.

Athletic Office Clearance

All athletes must register with the athletic office before they are allowed to practice. This includes paying the activity fee and getting a physical if you have not had one in the last three years. Registration information can be found on the track website or the Maple Grove Senior High athletics page. Registration now happens online through a student’s School-view account. Again, athletes must be cleared from the athletic office before you can prac-tice in March.

Practice Attendance

Practice begins on Monday March 14th, 2016 at 3:00 pm. Junior High students will come over to the high school on the shuttle bus after their school day is done and will begin each day at approximately 3:15 pm. Bring clothes to wear no matter what the weather condi-tions. Bring a lock for your locker and DO NOT leave anything out of your locker in the locker room. Captains will lead the team in a warm-up and stretching, announcements will be made and then athletes will move to their areas.

Athletes are expected to attend practice each day. Attendance at practice helps determine event participation at meets and will help determine your ability to earn a letter. Notify your area coach if you will not be at a practice or meet.

All absences must be explained by parent /guardian or doctor note. Emails to coaches are preferred. After second absence coaches will call home. After third absence the coaches have the right to withhold participation from a meet/event. Daily attendance will be docuemnted at the beginning of practice.

Meet Participation

At track meets, athletes are expected to be preparing to compete and when they are not they should be encouraging other athletes in competition. The expectation is that athletes will stay to the end of the meet to encourage their teammates. If an athlete plans to ride home from a meet with a parent and not on a bus a written note needs to be given to a coach 24 hours before the meet (this allows us to accommodate bus schedules).

Chemical Policy

By joining the track and field team athletes are agreeing to follow the chemical free rules defined by Maple Grove Senior High School and the Minnesota State High School League.

Respect and Cooperation

Cooperate and be courteous with your coaches and captains. We will always work in your best interest and in the best interest of the team. Each track athlete is expected to exhibit ex-emplary behavior while representing Maple Grove Senior High. Respect officials, your teammates, coaches and especially your competition. When you finish an event, thank the

Booster Club and Booster Fee

Maple Grove Track and Field relies on the involvement of parents and athletes to op-erate at a competitive level. Each year, the Booster Club manages the team budget, organizes volunteers, oversees the season picnic and banquet, and performs a variety of other essential functions necessary for our program.

The Booster Fee is essential in maintaining a competitive program. We ask every fam-ily to pay a booster fee to help support our program. The money collected from this fee helps pay for additional coaches for the season and helps purchase equipment for the team. All booster fee payments are tax-deductible.

Thank you for your support!

FAQs

Below are a few Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) many families ask........

Q) What gear will my athlete need for practice?

A) Athletes should bring clothing for both indoor and outdoor training and a good pair of training/running shoes. For shoes... stores such The Running Room, Sports Authority and Dick's Sporting Goods offer a good selection and the staff can help choose the right shoe for your runner. Racing spikes are also recommended. Athletes should choose spikes that are appropriate for their event(s). If you are new to track and not sure which events you will be competing in, wait until later in the season to make this purchase.

Q) What are the practice times and how long will practice last?

A) Practice begins March 9th. Senior High athletes begin at 3:00, Junior High at 3:15. The length of practice times will vary because we will be running different workouts each day. The average time will be 1.5 to 2 hours. JH runners that need to catch the late bus will be done by 4:45.

Q) How do the Junior High athletes get to the High School for practice or to track meets?

A) There is an activity bus that leaves MGJH and OJH each day after school and drops off near the locker rooms (Door C). For track meets, we will have a bus that picks students up at the school and brings them to the meet. Please note that anyone returning from a track meet on the bus will be dropped off at the HIGH SCHOOL.

Q) I'm new to track. Which event group should I train with?

A) Athletes that are new to track should begin with the event area they feel most comfortable trying first. The first few weeks of practice all athletes will participate in "try it" activities to give the athlete the opportunity to try a variety of running and field events. The athletes and the coaches will then determine which events the athlete should participate in for each of the track meets.

Q) I'm concerned my son/daughter has an injury. What should I do?

A) Muscle soreness and fatigue is a normal result of training. How-ever, if there is concern about an injury the athlete needs to notify their coach and be seen by the school's athletic trainer for an evalua-tion. The trainer will recommend a course of action. The athletic trainer can be contacted through the team webpage or through the Maple Grove Senior High site.
