Lara Mantovan trained both as a linguist and as a sign language interpreter at Ca' Foscari University of Venice. In 2015, she received a PhD in Linguistics from Ca' Foscari University, under the direction of Carlo Geraci and Anna Cardinaletti. In her doctoral dissertation, she explored the syntax of LIS nominal expressions combining three different theoretical dimensions of inquiry: linguistic typology, generative linguistics, and sociolinguistics.
Since the end of her PhD, she has been involved as a postdoctoral fellow (at Ca’ Foscari University and at the University of Milano-Bicocca) in various projects aiming at investigating structural aspects of LIS grammar. The issues she has mainly focused on are null arguments, motion predicates, non-restrictive relative clauses, impersonals, and verbal irony.
