Chinese For Beginners
(Worcester Night Life Course, Spring 2010)
8 MONDAYS, Starts 3/1/10
6:30-8:30 p.m.
This beginning course is designed for people who would like to have a quick introduction to Mandarin Chinese with emphasis on speaking skills or for people who plan to tour or work in China. The course includes PINYIN, (the basic Mandarin pronunciation system), tones, grammar, useful daily Mandarin words, phrases, and sentences for various situations. Basic strokes and stroke order will be introduced and students will have opportunity to learn to write some most useful characters and the use of a Chinese-English/English-Chinese dictionary.

Lesson 3 ……………………..........…Dictionary, Numbers, Time and Calendar, yes/no questions

Lesson 5 ………………… …..………..............………Eating Out, money, shopping and bargaining
Lesson 6 …………..........................Hotels and Room Service, Getting Around and Sightseeing

Chinese culture, food and traditions will be gradually introduced throughout the course. Various exercises will be provided to give students opportunities to practice listening to and speaking Chinese.
