SAIL ON THE SAIL TRAINING SHIP ‘THE LORD NELSON’
WITH THE JUBILEE SAILING TRUST (JST) U.K.
24 MAY -30 MAY 2005
The Jubilee Sailing Trust is a charity in the UK which makes affordable sail training on board its two sail training ships – The Lord Nelson and The Trafalgar, to ‘persons of all abilities’. Being honorary life member , Major Ashok Kumar Singh requisitioned for a place on The Lord Nelson, and he and his wife, Dr Mrs Asha Singh, sailed a seven day voyage, from London, across the English Channe to Cherbourg (France) , and back across the Channel, finishing at Weymouth. Both were assigned to the Starboard Forward watch, and attended to all duties as watch mates, along with the rest of the watch, including standing watch, hoisting and trimming sails, mother watch and galley duties as well as happy hour and clean-ship duties. Major Ashok Kumar Singh also climbed up the rat-lines to the yard arm, to release as well as stow sails, while tethered to the life line. Asha also climbed up the rat-lines to the yard arm.
The sail was a very memorable one, thanks to the JST; and they look forward for another opportunity to sail with the JST again.
