KIRTI CHAKRA
KIRTI CHAKRA BY SHRI GYANI ZAIL SINGH, PRESIDENT OF INDIA - 1987
The Kirti Chakra is an Indian military decoration awarded for valour, courageous action or self-sacrifice away from the field of battle. It may be awarded to civilians as well as military personnel, including posthumous awards. It is the peacetime equivalent of the Maha Vir Chakra. It is second in order of precedence of peacetime gallantry awards; it comes after Ashoka Chakra and before Shaurya Chakra. Before 1967, the award was known as the Ashoka Chakra, Class II.
Established: Established as the "Ashoka Chakra, Class II" by the President of India, 4 January 1952 (with effect from 15 August 1947). The statutes were revised and the decoration renamed on 27 January 1967
SENA MEDAL - 1976
The Sena Medal is awarded to members of the Indian army, of all ranks, "for such individual acts of exceptional devotion to duty or courage as have special significance for the Army." Awards may be made posthumously and a bar is authorized for subsequent awards of the Sena Medal.
Established: 17 June 1960, by the President of India.
Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award 1994
The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports had instituted National Adventure Awards in 1993 with a view to giving due recognition to the achievements made by persons in the field of adventure. The awards have been renamed as “Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Awards”.
