MFC Celebrates 50 Years of Outdoor Learning
On the 29th September Magilligan Field Centre marked a 50 year milestone on the anniversary of its official opening in 1973. The Centre hosted a range of visitors and speakers to celebrate its achievements and highlight the important and valued service that the Centre provides for schools and teachers as well as the significant impact it has on the education and lives of children and young people.

MFC service provision
MFC staff facilitate and provide support for teachers and students in the delivery of outdoor education programmes with a primary focus on field study investigations. These are delivered across a range of subject areas, in a variety of settings and to a range of age groups from pre-school children to adult learners. Programmes are run on a day or residential visit.
MFC facilities are also available as a venue for training, meetings and conferences.
The centre is within comfortable driving distance of the North Antrim coast, Rathlin Island and the Sperrin Mountains. A regular ferry service from Magilligan Point also provides easy access to the Inishowen Peninsula of Co Donegal. MFC Programmes
All of our programmes focus on active pupil participation and enjoyment. Activities involve appropriately structured investigations and explorations of a range of habitats in the local area. These can include studies of lakes, streams, woodland and shore and explorations of upland bog, sand dune, woodland, hedgerow, river and beach ecosystems.
We promote and support learning outside and inside the classroom, exemplifying Education for Sustainable Development. Our programmes are linked and mapped to the NI Curriculum and provide participatory learning experiences which develop thinking skills and personal capabilities.
MFC offers a variety of programmes to suit different levels and ability range. More details can be found in the relevant sections of this site. Courses can be tailored to suit individual school, teacher and student needs in order to maximise benefits of the experience.
