Risk it All: Ecology Edition (Biology)

In this fast paced, strategic event, groups are given money that can be used to buy and answer ecology-based questions. The questions are priced according to difficulty and the reward is proportional to the risk factor of the question. If you answer the question wrong, you lose the question, your money and your place in line. So the question is: will your group play it safe, or risk it all?
Objective: To make as much money as possible.
The Great Chem Race (Chemistry)
Participants per team: 3
Does a competitive nature burn within you, inflating your heart like a balloon? Do you have 7th grade chemistry knowledge and would love to show off to all of your peers? If your answer is yes then The Great Chem Race is for you! The Great Chem Race is an interactive competition where olympians compete to escape Elemental Island by answering knowledge based questions along with completing 3 exciting chemistry activities. Whoever completes the race first escapes the island! Good luck chemists!
Objective: To be the first one to “escape” Elemental Island, otherwise to finish this three part chem race as fast as possible. The faster you get off the island the better.
Straw Bridge Building (Engineering)
Participants per team: 4
Demonstrate your knowledge of structures and stability in a challenge to build the most structurally stable bridge. Teams of 4 will need to cooperate to design and construct a bridge out of drinking straws to support a load of weights. Points will be awarded according to the weight that can be supported by the bridge without collapsing.
Objective: Build a bridge to support a load of weight using the given materials in the allotted time frame.
Math Blitz (Math)
Participants per team: 3
Working as a team, you will have to answer 25 multiple choice questions displayed on the smartboard-one minute per question.
Objective: Using the clicker designated for your team, answer as many of the questions displayed on the smartboard as you can. Accuracy matters!
