About the line work
The visual influences for my line work include Morandi’s long line etchings and 'engineering'; that is to say the technical diagrams and specifications I’ve been involved with.
But just as formative, is my father teaching me at the age of four, to draw a horse with the aid of a penny and a sixpence. Indeed the meditative aspects of laying down repeated lines hearken back to those earliest times, when I’m sure I felt the pencil under my fingers and watched the line it produced as keenly as I do now.
Like singing or acting, drawing goes back to those very early years, when you can draw anywhere you choose; in the dust, in the dirt or on a misted up window.
