The New Lute Café presents…

¡Escuche!

Sarah Jackson and Phillip Rukavina perform lovely vihuela songs from the Spanish siglo de oro.

There is NOTHING as beautiful as songs from the Spanish Golden Age!

On this program, titled “Listen!” soprano Sarah Jackson and vihuelista Phillip Rukavina present captivating songs for voice and vihuela da mano. Although not as familiar to audiences as lute songs from Elizabethan England, these works are every bit as lovely and richly composed. In many ways they require more from the performers technically as well as artistically and they return the added investment manyfold! Rukavina performs on the guitar-like vihuela, the Spanish version of the lute. Composers include the most famous composers and vihuelistas of the Siglo d’oro including Luys Narvaez, Alonso Mudarra, Luis Milan, Enrique Valdarrabano, and more!

NOTE: Concert is on Tuesday.

The New Lute Café is sponsored by the St. Paul Conservatory of Music.
