The New Lute Café Presents…
Thomas Walker, Jr., features the music from the salons, courts, and chapels, of Paris in the 17th century. Fortunately for us, you don’t need rarefied connections or exclusive invites to be privy to this decadent soundscape. The lute defined the French sound for at least a century, and they favored the most luxuriant suspensions, quirkily displaced rhythms, and just generally prized subtly and ambiguity. The result is uncompromisingly beautiful. The former St. Paul’s on the Hill, now the St. Paul Conservatory, provides an acoustic equal to the music. Take a couple hours and forget that outside it’s November, and hear preludes, pavanes, courantes, and chaconnes, by the great lutenists of the age—Charles Mouton, Ennemond Gaultier, and Francois Dufault. You don't want to miss this concert!
See you there!
The New Lute Café is sponsored by the St. Paul Conservatory of Music.
