Drink Driving Laws and Fines in Fiji

Don’t! No matter what the fucking rules of how much you can drink, just don't. Taxis in Nadi are piss cheap and the chances are you already have heaps of cash in your pocket to pay for one. If you don't have cash, stop at an ATM and get some.

If you have a drink, you could be over the limit. Don't start thinking its 0.05 limit, nearly everyone has a different metabolism.

Drink Driving is a criminal offence here, don’t try and fool yourself. If you are caught drink driving, it is possible you'll get a fine, criminal record and likely lose your driving licence in Fiji.

If you get caught, you'll be asked to show your driver’s licence and probably taken to either Lautoka, Nadi or Namaka police station. You'll usually be put in a cell until around 7am (not the best place to wake up with hangover).

There are rumours that if you're caught on Friday evening you'll be in the cells until the Courts open on Monday morning. I don't think this is true. You'll more than likely be let out in the morning and given a date to attend Court

The chances are you're reading this because you've been caught and are wondering what to do. If you've been caught, don't bury your head in the sand, get some legal advice ASAP. It is possible you'll get a charge without conviction and maybe not even lose you licence when you appear in court, but that's for the courts to decide, not me!!

So jump to it and seek some legal advise. You'll need about FJD2000 all up to get representation, but well worth it I would say.
