Ngapaki's background is in theatre directing and performance. Her work has been in large conventional theatre venues as well as community settings including marae. Shes passionate about her and her husbands program Ruku Po. Ruku Po sees her learning and generating opportunity for people across public, private and community contexts to work with Maori processes of engagement, particularly translating these into applications across diverse settings. In their model in order to get to a deep sense of listening, a sequence within the process of meeting must occur first. The process of engagement is crucial. "Many missings occur because we move too fast to become a group. Maori have processes of engagement that elevate differences in a group, in order to meet other stronger and more differentiated. This must occur otherwise the meeting is thin, the listening is at best polite and true engagment, missed.
