How to connect up a Linksys Wireless Router

If you have several computers in your workplace, you are able to join them all to the same network with a Linksys wireless router. Networked computers access the Internet and share information, such as documents or job information, together with one another. Your router will not get the job done just by plugging it in, however. You will need to configure it first before your computer will connect to the world wide web.

  1. Connect an Ethernet cable into the port labeled"Internet" or"WAN" onto the back of your wireless router. Connect the other end of this cable to the Ethernet port in your cable modem.

  2. Use an Ethernet cable to connect your computer to port 1, 2, 3 or 4 to the router. If you'd like a wireless connection, you are able to remove the Ethernet cable after after you've finished installation.

  3. Connect the router to a power socket with the supplied power adapter. After the router has finished initializing, the LED lights on front panel should turn green.

  4. Launch any Web browser. Type"192.168.1.1" (without quotations ) from the address bar, then press"Enter."

  5. Type"admin" (without quotations ) in the Password field. Do not type anything in the User Name field. Click"OK."

  6. Click on"MAC Address Clone" about the Setup tab. Click"Enabled" and"Clone My PC's MAC," then pick"Save Settings"

  7. Click"Status" and look at the numbers next to the Web IP Address. Should you see numbers here, the router is set up properly. If you visit"0.0.0.0," click"Release IP Address," and then click"Renew IP Address." Alternately, when you have a Wireless-G or even Wireless-B router, click"DHCP Release" and"DHCP Renew."

  2. Click the"Desktop" tile to the Windows Start screen, then click the"Wireless" icon in the system tray.

  3. Click your network name. If you want to connect to the network automatically when the computer starts, click on the check box next to"Connect automatically."

  4. Click"Link" Type your system security password, and then click"Next" If you do not know your password, then sign in to the Linksys router configuration page.
