Welcome! I’m Lina Cardona-Sosa, a Senior Economist at the World Bank’s Poverty and Equity Global Practice. My work focuses on understanding poverty persistence and inequality in Eastern and Southern Africa, with country-level engagement in Malawi and the wider region.
My research explores the design and evaluation of social programs in low- and middle-income countries—including India, Ghana, and Colombia—with particular attention to early childhood development and the long-term impacts of cash transfers on labor market outcomes.
Before joining the World Bank, I worked at the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) in London and in the Microeconomic Research Unit of the Central Bank of Colombia (Banco de la República de Colombia). I hold a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Essex, an M.Sc. in Economics from University College London (UCL), and a B.Sc. in Economics from EAFIT University in Medellín, Colombia.
