About Marlan

Marlan, Reiki Master Teacher

Like most wonderful things in my life, Reiki was something that I stumbled upon and was a gift. In 1984, my then-husband Pawel Kuczynski was commissioned by Reiki Master Joyce Morris to make a promo film about her Los Angeles Reiki Center and giving us training was part of the "deal." I was sick with a chronic illness and would not be well again for years after I began practicing Reiki. But it made me feel wonderful when I did it, and took away any pain if I laid my hand over the spot.

As Joyce Morris points out in her brilliant book Reiki: Hands That Heal, Reiki can't be a cure-all if you need to make some fundamental life changes.

I slipped easily into Reiki because I was already practicing Kundalini meditation and yoga, and had begun to have experiences that convinced me to embrace my intuition and spirituality. My professional life has always interlaced with the arts, and I considered Reiki a kind of hobby. In 2001, those I'd helped urged me to "go pro" and I began to accept clients.

In 2007, I took the leap to teaching and hosting group shares. I am not a warm/fuzzy cheerleader type, nor do I approach Reiki with deep seriousness. As with all the arts, I practice my technique and then stand back and let Spirit do the rest. Letting the ego take a back seat is the key to success when you're dealing with Universal Energy.

My background includes Tai Chi, Chi Kung, the Art of Tea, Eastern Philosophy, playwrighting, directing theater, screenwriting, journalism, and filmmaking. And it includes travel and living in many places in the U.S. and Canada. I can't offer the stability of only doing one thing in one place; however I can offer my willingness to give loving care and serve others with my knowledge, skill and honesty.
