Participant Info
Thank you for your interest in Wood Badge! I hope you find the information below useful. If you have additional questions, please contact us. Be assured that between 30 and 60 days prior to the course, we will be in contact to answer any questions you may have.
By participating in Wood Badge training, you will become part of a select group of Scouters who share a common passion for improved leadership in Scouting. Better leadership means a better experience for the youth we serve. Below is some important information for the course.
The Course:
The course is completed over two weekends. The first weekend is...
Friday, September 11, 7:30 AM to Sunday, September 13, 5:30 PM
at Camp Crooked Creek. Located at the Frazier Scout Reservation, Sheperdsville, KY
The second weekend is...
Friday, October 10, 7:30 AM to Sunday, October 11, 5:30 PM
at Leadership Development Center. Located at the Frazier Scout Reservation, Sheperdsville, KY
The first three day weekend of the course will be held at Camp Crooked Creek (CCC) in and around the Dining Hall. The weekend is very structured and will be full of instructional sessions and activities. All of your meals, drinks, and snacks will be prepared by staff members. Lodging will be in the CCC staff cabins. You will participate in one of several small groups. There will be one or two mandatory group meetings between the weekends. The date and time will be established by your group.
The second weekend of the course will take place at Leadership Development Center where you will camp and cook as a member of your group using the principles of Leave No Trace. The hike to the campsite will be relatively short and easy; however, we will provide alternative transportation to anyone who requires it. More details will be provided during the first weekend. We'll also have a full schedule of learning sessions and activities.
Pre-course Assignment:
To help you begin considering issues that will be important during the course, please set aside some time in the weeks prior to the course to complete the 15 questions document. The assignment is for your benefit and no one but you will see your answers. Instructions are included in the attachment.
The Ticket:
You will be required to develop 5 goals which relate to your current registered scouting position. Each of these "goals" will be defined (who, what, where, when, and how) by you and a staff member. They are your personal challenges and commitment, to take the information from the training and apply that knowledge to make better scouting for our youth. Once you've made the commitment to attend the training, start to think about the needs of your scouting communities. Talk with leaders and other Wood Badge graduates to gather some ideas; however, do only generate a set of ideas. Please wait to finalize these until you have the benefit of the learning's from the course. The course is certain to give you plenty of ideas and expand your thinking on ticket possibilities.

If you have any special dietary requirements or physical limitations, please include a note on your confidential "Personal Resource Questionnaire". Of course, if it is more convenient, you may hand deliver your fees and forms to the Sam Swope Scout Service Center.
Note: It is national BSA requirement that all Wood Badge fees are paid and all forms returned prior to the start of the course.
Equipment:
Attached is a suggested equipment list to assist you in planning. Please note that not all items are required. The first weekend, you'll be sleeping in the CCC staff cabins with other participants, which will have 4 bunk beds with mattresses and electricity. The second weekend, you'll be camping in your own tent with your group. We'll have indoor and outdoor activities both weekends. A day-pack is recommended so you can carry your personal items around the site. It is important that you are prepared and comfortable.
Uniform:
During the Wood Badge course, wear the full field uniform of your Scouting position. If you serve in more than one capacity, wear the uniform representing the position in which you are most active, but you may wear your other uniforms as well. A full uniform consists of an official BSA scout shirt, Scout shorts or pants, official leather or web belt, official socks, and shoulder loops for your Scouting program. Please inspect your uniform before coming to the Wood Badge course and make any corrections. You can wear either the new or older versions of the shirt or pants in any combination, but the insignia must be accurate for the shirt you wear. In addition to your official field uniform, at times during the course you will be asked to wear an "activity uniform" consisting of uniform pants (short or long) with official belt, official socks, and a Wood Badge t-shirt which will be provided. Non-scouting shirts and hats are not acceptable. Bring any outer-wear you need to be comfortable.
Interfaith Worship Services:
Both weekends will include an interfaith worship service modeling how members of all faiths can worship together in a Scouting setting. During those services, we will be collecting voluntary donations to the World Friendship Fund, which supports international Scouting.
Electronics:
During the course, please plan to turn off or mute mobile phones and other devices during program sessions. You will be able to make calls during break times, but cell coverage may be limited at our locations. Do not use devices that will interrupt sessions or disturb others. Electronic tablets/laptops used for note taking will be permitted, but please don't let them distract others.
A staff member will contact you before the course starts to share more details with you and answer any questions you may have. Our goal is to help you have a great time at Wood Badge, and we are ready to serve you.
You will have an outstanding, memorable training experience, a lot of fun, and make many new friends!
We look forward to seeing you on the LHC-2055 Wood Badge Course!
