Leslie Ramos Salazar is a Mexican-American who was born in the early 1980s in Torrance, California. Given that her parents did not have the opportunity of an education, her parents worked hard to instill in her the value of an education to be able to survive in this tough world. She started her education in San Luis Potosi, Mexico in Melchor Ocampo where she was taught several courses in Spanish. During that period she learned how to read and write in Spanish. Then, after two years her mother decided that she was now had the cultural background skills needed to succeed in America's educational system, and she matriculated Leslie at the Maude Price Elementary in Downey, California. From there, Leslie attended Griffiths Middle School and Warren High School. After earning her high school diploma in 2003, she continued her education as a first-generation student at California State University, Long Beach, where she obtained both her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in Communication Studies. In 2007, she continued her education to pursue a doctorate degree at Arizona State University. She earned her Doctoral Degree in Interpersonal Communication in 2013 and she worked as Assistant Professor of Interpersonal Communication at California State University, Fresno from Aug. 2013- Jan. 2015. She is currently working as a Full Professor in the Paul & Virginia Engler College of Business at West Texas A&M University (WTAMU) teaching courses in Business Communication, Statistics for Business and Economics, Healthcare Communication, and Business Communication for Health Care Managers. She teaches courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Go Buffs!
