SWIM CAP

    BRAIN SWIM CAP

After completing the cap you must wear it to one class (not Anatomy) and tell your teacher which part of the brain you will

be using in their class (have them sign your notebook for credit).

Every class after the 1 will be extra credit

LEFT SIDE

RIGHT SIDE

***If you don't have a cap you can always shave your head, like this former student,
and have your friend paint the brain on you and you can always wear it at your championship!

FUNCTION LABELS:

Add these functions on to your brain cap (these will be on your quiz):

Cerebrum=CONSCIOUS  THOUGHT Cerebellum=GENERAL MOTOR COORDINATION

Occipital=VISION Hypothalamus=AUTONOMIC FUNCTIONS

Temporal=SPEECH/LANGUAGE/HEARING Corpus Callosum= DISSEMINATES INFO

Frontal=PERSONALITY Thalamus=MOTOR/RELAY STATION

Parietal=MOVEMENT Pons=MOTOR CONTROL

Cerebral Cortex=MEMORY Medulla=BREATHING/ HEART RATE

Brain Stem = Reflexes

SIDE 1: CEREBRAL LOBES

CEREBRAL CORTEX: Memory, Attention, Perceptual Awareness, Thought, Language, and Consciousness

CEREBRUM: Conscious Thought, Movement and Sensation

SIDE 2: MIDBRAIN, FOREBRAIN, HINDBRAIN

MEDULLA OBLONGATA: Responsible for maintaining vital body functions, such as breathing and heart rate. It is also the Respiratory Center, Cardiovascular Center and the Reflex Center.

PONS: Motor control and sensory analysis, levels of consciousness and for sleep, movement and posture

THALAMUS: Motor Control, Receives Auditory, Somatosensory and Visual Sensory Signals & Relay Station for Sensory Signals to the

                      Cerebral Cortex, as well as the sensation of pain and attention.

HYPOTHALAMUS: Controls Autonomic Functions, Emotions/Mood, Endocrine Functions, Homeostasis, Motor Functions,

                               Temperature, Regulates Food and Water Intake, Regulates Sleep Wake Cycle

PITUITARY GLAND: Secretes hormones regulating homeostasis, including tropic hormones that stimulate other

                                    endocrine glands; growth and sexual maturation

CORPUS CALLOSUM: It disseminates information from the cerebral cortex on one side of the brain to the same

                                    region on the other side.

CEREBELLUM: Regulation and coordination of movement/walking, posture, and balance; general motor coordination

BRAIN STEM: Alertness, Arousal, Breathing, Blood Pressure, Digestion, Heart Rate, Reflexes

OTHER INFO

CSF: Cerebrospinal Fluid is located in the CNS and acts as a shock absorber, protection, and maintains chemical homeostasis

MENINGES: The 3 protective membranes that surround the brain and spinal cord. They include the Dura mater (tough mother), Arachnoid mater (spider web of collagen), & Pia mater (gentle mother).
