Work History
Nipisihkopahk Elementary School 2018 to current year- I started the 2018/2019 school year on the substitution list for the Wolfcreek School Division and MESC. As a substitute teacher, I have been called to the Ponoka Secondary Campus, Rimbey Outreach, Alix-Mac School, and Ermineskin jr/sr High School. In October 2018, I was offered a full-time one-year position at Nipisihkopahk Elementary School teaching grade 4/5 due to high enrollment creating a new class. The use of more hands-on learning and shorter attention spans of younger students have given me more strategies for my teaching. The mastering of classroom management has become a strength as well. I continued as the Phys Ed teacher in 2019/20 teaching Grades 2 to 6. In the current year I began as a Phys ed teacher and was transferred to Grade 4 classroom teacher due to a high need in the classrrom.
Secondary Teacher 2017/18 - Part-time teacher at Ponoka Secondary Campus and substitute teacher. I taught Grade 10 Science, Science 14/24, Science 10-4/20-4, and physical education 10 classes. This opportunity has allowed me to build relationships with students of all levels. The success of each student is my favorite part of teaching. I am taking part in an opportunity to build FNMI understanding with continued development seminars. One highlight of the year is my youth basketball project. This project was to build youth basketball athletes in Ponoka and area over spring break 2018.
Secondary Teacher 2016/17 - Substitute teacher and Ponoka Secondary Relief Teacher. I started the year filling as a sub teacher and was asked to fill a sick leave for the remainder of 2016/17. I taught Science 7 and Knowledge and Employability grade 10, 20, 30, Science 8, 14/24, and physical Education 10. This was a great opportunity to build on my strategies for teaching a large range of students. I have had an opportunity to teach the Read 180 program for students in grades 10, 11, and 12. I have had the opportunity to teach the Read 180 program to struggle readers.
Research Biologist 2000 to 2001 Norwest Labs – City of Lethbridge, AB Laboratory research with duties including gathering, entering, and reporting information for soil and agricultural feed samples. Managed client relations and answered questions in person and over the phone. At the time, a new computer system had been installed. This was a great opportunity to learn more and adapt to technology. The highlights of this position included becoming an expert in data analysis, a leader in data presentation, skills with laboratory equipment, professional multitasking, having a positive attitude, and handling pressure.
Laboratory Technician, LambWeston – Taber, AB Worked in the upstream potato lab and the mainstream potato lab in the food industry. These labs were quality control for making commercial standard French fries. I ran titrations on sugar and starch contents. The quality of potato samples was monitored. The data collection and management of results were done with computer systems technology. This position was a night shift and I was involved in the process of employees looking into union options. I learned a lot about the process of a large company. I also learned how the night shift life can be a challenge when I love the sunshine. This first-hand experience helped me to understand how people live when they work shift work.
