One of the cool features from the Unix world is virtual desktops. A virtual desktop is just like your regular desktop, with windows in a certain arrangement, but the "virtual" part indicates that you can have more than one. Instead of having one massively jumbled desktop with your IDE, your database console, and all your email, instant messaging, browsers, etc. on it, you can have singly purposed desktops for each logical grouping of actvities. A massive pile of windows on your desktop distracts you from focus on particular task because you constantly have to sort through the windows.
There are cetain virtual desktop tools available. One of such tools, which is provided by Microsoft for windows XP, is "VIRTUAL DESKTOP MANAGER".
Virtual Desktop Manager is an excellent tool which facilitates users to run four desktops from the Windows taskbar simultaneously, which user can switch in between. Each of these desktops can have its own background and have its own applications loaded.
You can download it from here. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-IN/windows/xp-downloads#2TC=powertoys
For support to higher versions of windows e.g. windows 2007 , some below mentioned tools are available.
