About LEAP

Design

Design Nights have consistently been our most popular nights of the year! Students will build and test a small project over the course of the night. Past projects have included HDTV antennas, catapults, popsicle-stick bridges, and mousetrap cars.

Speakers

What better way to find out about engineering than to talk to engineers?

Throughout the year, we will host a variety of engineers who will showcase what they do and answer any questions you may have. Curious about the cool projects you could work on as an engineer? Trying to figure out if this is the career for you? Come find out!

Tours

Our tours are geared toward future engineers, giving you the opportunity to learn about a wide range of topics that span everything from college life to aviation and satellite hardware. In the past, students and parents have visited the Stanford and SJSU engineering labs, the Hiller Aviation Museum, and cutting-edge Lockheed Martin facilities.

Final Project

Students will form teams to complete a final project over the course of the last couple of months of the program. Through the final project, students will learn about the real-world engineering process, from the proposal stage to design and test. In past years, teams have created rockets with egg payloads and LEGO Mindstorm robots.

Mentoring

Each student has the opportunity to establish a mentoring relationship a Lockheed Martin engineer for the year. Students may seek out mentors to guide them in course selection, career paths, college application processes, and LEAP-related questions.
