A trip to Argentina

Sketchbook of a lovely trip

After my digital sketchbook done in Sicily (2018), I have once again brought with me - together with my pens and paper - also my digital sketchbook.

I have visited the northern regions of Argentina, and of course Buenos Aires, in 2019.

Below are some of the sketches I like the most. Ah... most of the sketches of Buenos Aires are actually on my paper notebook, which is a bit too personal to share here! :)

Anyway, enjoy!

Buenos Aires, 'Desayuno numero 5'

The cafes of Buenos Aires are just great, and the staff amazing. I am so sorry I did not take as many sketches of San Telmo as I had in mind. Our favourite breakfast combo was called 'numero 5'.

Salta

Salta La Linda. And it is indeed marvellous. Here a quick sketch of its skyline (oh, the Andes!).

The Obelisk of Buenos Aires

The obelisk of the Avenida 9 de Julio in Buenos Aires looks taller in the photos. But it is nevertheless a monumental object and very elegant - while surrounded by the busy city traffic.

Cordoba's monumental city centre

Lovely colours - the colonial past of Argentina at its finest

"El Rio Sin Orillas"

I spent the trip to Argentina reading JJ Saer El Rio Sin Orillas. And this is a quote by JJ Saer (as found in the MACBA Museum toilet...) together with a sketch of Rio de La Plata taken while boaring for a flight at the Buenos Aires regional airport

Cordoba's monumental city centre

Lovely colours of Cordoba - the city is full of nice people. I have precious memories of its canals.

Sifon de agua

In Argentina sparling water is still served in those lovely vintage seltzer bottles - lovely and refreshing!

La pampa from the aeroplane

What a view - I wish I was a better draughtsman!

Malba, 'La pileta'

MALBA is the equivalent of the Whitney Museum for the Latin America, and it is dedicated to art from Latin America. I did a sketch of a famous artwork, La Pileta (The Pool) - temporarily exhibited there (just great experience!).

Milanesa a la napolitana... y papas!

I am so proud for all the Italians that helped building Argentina. And for bringing the Milanesa! Delicious!!!

Puerto Madero

A gorgeous way to redesign the old wharves in Buenos Aires. The old cranes were all made in Italy, as beautiful as modernist sculptures: they are home to birds nesting.
