Tonight marked 200 games in charge of Real Madrid for the one and only Zinedine Zidane, who has been able to successfully transition into the world of management – and that’s an understatement. The belief was that he’d be able to make this a winning occasion, and that’s exactly how it transpired as Real ran out to a comfortable 3-1 win over Eibar as their La Liga title push continues. After just four minutes Toni Kroos was able to give the favourites the lead, and from that point on, Real never really looked like they were in any kind of substantial danger. It turned into something that quite literally resembled a training game, with Sergio Ramos and Marcelo both scoring before half time to really rub salt in the wounds.

Eyes on the prize After the break it was clear to see that Real had taken their foot off of the pedal, probably to save energy ahead of what is bound to be an incredibly hectic schedule across the next few months. Eibar were able to somewhat take advantage of that, with Pedro Bigas’ fortunate goal ensuring that the scoreline looked a little bit more respectable.

Up next will be two games that can be described as a little bit tougher than this one for Real as their push for the championship really heats up. They will be hosting Valencia on Thursday evening, before a trip to take on Real Sociedad who have been flying much higher than anyone anticipated this season. On the flip side, Eibar are well aware of the fact that they need to start picking up some points to avoid being dragged into the relegation mire – and they’ll try to do just that in their next two games against Athletic Bilbao and Getafe.
