Bricks and Blocks

Brick

Brick will last for years, but does occasionally require some type of maintenance. The concrete joints between can erode and require refilling. Some types of brick were not made well, and the face of the brick can actually peel off. Sometimes, the brick is not attached properly to a building and will begin to lean away from the structure. These concerns, as well as others, are easily addressed.

Years ago, brick was confined to just a few colors: dark reds, browns, and camels. Occasionally, a brick yard may have older brick available, and there are also "graveyards" that will have some older brick styles. Even though some brick may no longer be available, many colors and styles are now produced, and we can usually find a close match, or something that may compliment your existing style.

Block

Due to the constant heat and cold cycles found in the Kansas City area, basements go through a lot. Concrete can crack, allowing water to seep into your home. There are fillers, sealers, and other options now available depending on the damage. A single wall can be removed and replaced with a block wall.

A house that does not have a basement could have one added using concrete block. A "split-faced" block is now available, which is smooth on one side and rough looking, almost like stone, on the other. This option would lean toward a more finished look.

A few years ago, some local cities instituted an ordinance requiring an enclosure around the trash containers of businesses, and Lasker Masonry has worked with contractors throughout the country to complete these structures for local businesses.
