I have been editing and proofreading texts in Afrikaans and English for almost two decades and aim to provide my clients with the best version of their written work. I am accredited in Afrikaans and English as a copy editor (Professional Editors' Guild and the South African Translators Institute).

Background

I am, first and foremost, a lover of languages and a true bibliophile. For as long as I can remember, my great loves were languages, stories and books. I always found different languages and people’s use thereof fascinating, especially in the written form. So, my dream was to work with language someday – learn and teach different languages, translate, copy-edit, write and do research in language.

I obtained my BA degree in languages, followed by my honours degree and master's degree, all cum laude. Doing research for my postgraduate studies opened my eyes for the wonderful world of research and scholarly writing, which I enjoyed immensely. Having completed my doctorate, I taught English and Afrikaans for a few years, all the while doing proofreading and copy-editing work in my spare time. I finally left teaching to edit and do instructional design for a higher education institution, while still editing dissertations, theses, journal articles, academic books, textbooks and study guides for other clients. 

For almost two decades, I have done this work full-time, concentrating mostly on scholarly editing, with the occasional piece of fiction in-between. I edit both the text and the references, adhering to the prescribed referencing style of the journal, university or institution. 

I love my job and take a lot of pride in polishing people’s written work and providing them with the best version thereof. As I believe in lifelong learning, it is a bonus for me to be in a position where I read new research studies on a daily basis.
