Teaching

The University of Northern Iowa

I teach Public Opinion and Voting Behavior each spring and alternate between Advanced Methods in Public Policy and Social Science Statistics in fall semesters.

Duke University

I co-taught an experiential research course through Duke's Bass Connections program. Our team was tasked with evaluating education and electoral policies designed to promote youth civic engagement. Learn more about our project goals here. I also taught four survey methods workshops each semester –  Planning Research & Collecting Data; Best Practices in Survey Question Writing; Introduction to Qualtrics Survey Software; and Introduction to Survey Experiments

The University of Texas at Austin

I taught two courses at the University of Texas at Austin: Government Research Internship in Fall 2014 and Applied Research in Political Science in Spring 2015. Both courses were part of a yearlong program to introduce undergraduate students to the research process in the social sciences and included instruction in: research design and methods, introductory statistical analysis, regression analysis, and data analysis in Stata. In this program, students gained hands on experience by engaging in research projects affiliated with Innovations for Peace and Development (IPD). In addition to working on IPD's ongoing research projects, in the fall semester students developed and presented their own, original research proposal. In the spring semester, they completed, formally wrote up, and presented their results. Five of my students presented their research projects at the 2015 Midwest Political Science Association Conference. All students presented their projects during Undergraduate Research Week at the University of Texas. Two of my students had their class projects recognized by the university as one of the "30 Seriously Impressive Undergrad Research Projects."
