What is a KY-Bred Appaloosa?

In order to be eligible for incentive money in any KApOA program, your horse must be certified as a KY-Bred Appaloosa.


For a horse to be certified, it must meet certain requirements.

All Appaloosas must be registered with the Appaloosa Horse Club to participate.

Horses must have either a regular, CPO or Performance Permit ApHC registration certificate to participate in the Open and Regional Show programs.

Appaloosas Foaled in 2006 and Before

Requirements:

    • Registration certificate must show that the horse foaled in Kentucky.

    • AND must meet one of the following requirements:

      • The Breeder or Mare Owner, must be listed with a KY address on the registration certificate.

      • The Appaloosa Sire stood in KY at the time of breeding.

Appaloosas Foaled in 2007

Registered Appaloosa foals of 2007 must meet all of the requirements below:

    • Registration certificate must show that the horse foaled in Kentucky.

    • The Breeder or Mare Owner, must be listed with a KY address on the registration certificate.

    • The Appaloosa Sire stood in KY at the time of breeding.

Appaloosas foaled 2008-2010

Registered Appaloosa foals born 2008-2010 must meet the following requirements.

    • Registration certificate must show that the horse foaled in Kentucky.

    • The mare was bred in Kentucky.

    • Appaloosa sire stood the entire breeding season in KY at the time of Breeding.

Breeders or Mare Owners who live outside of Kentucky must meet the same requirements, in addition to providing verification by a veterinarian that the foal was born in KY, within 48 hours of foaling.

Appaloosas foaled 2011 and after

Registered Appaloosa foals that are born in 2011 and after must meet the following requirements.

    • Registration certificate must show that the horse foaled in Kentucky.

    • The mare was bred in Kentucky.

    • ApHC approved sire stood the entire breeding season in KY at the time of Breeding. The sire must be an ApHC approved cross, including ApHC, AQHA, TB and Arabian.
