You cannot begin counting hours until your horse has been certified and nominated. The rider must be a current member of KApOA and a member of a KY regional club.

DIVISIONS

As in the regional and open show programs offered by KApOA, there is an Open (divided into Jr. and Sr. Horses) and Youth Division.

Senior Horse (8-years-old or over)

Youth Division (Rider 18 & under as of January 1st of the current year)

Saddle Log Form

HOW TO REPORT YOUR TIME IN THE SADDLE

In order to be eligible for awards in the Saddle Log Program, you must keep a log of the hours you spend trail riding. This saddle log report can be downloaded here, or found under the Downloadable Forms.

Hours spent trail riding can be counted from January 1 until December 31.

At the end of the year, the awards will be based on the number of hours logged in the saddle. In the event of a tie, the person with the most hours logged while riding in KY will be the winner.

Saddle Log hours must be postmarked or turned in to the saddle log point keeper no later than January 15th of the award year.

RULES

Download the official  Saddle Log Rules or view them on the downloadable forms page.

All Appaloosas ridden in KApOA events must meet the KY-Bred eligibility requirements. The nomination form and fee for the horse must be submitted each year for participation. You cannot begin counting hours until your horse has been certified and nominated. The rider must be a current member of KApOA and a member of a KY regional club.

Participation in a KApOA Sponsored Judged Trail competition will be required to receive incentive fund awards. This competition will count for 75% of total score and the total hours ridden over the year will count 25%.

Nominated horses must compete in one KApOA Sponsored Judged Trail ride each year to be eligible for awards. Riders may choose to ride in all rides but will only count 1 set of results.

KApOA Judged Trail Ride locations and dates will be posted on the website.

Horses will be judged maneuvering 10 natural obstacles out on the designated trail. The results of the judged portion will count a total of 75% of the total score for the year.

The nominated horse must be judged in the determined division at one of the KApOA Approved judged rides.

Logged hours must be recorded on the form provided by KApOA. It will not include hours logged at the owner/rider's residence. A minimum of 50% of the hours logged must be documented by maps, receipts, etc. from the area of the rides. (Saddle log Program is not limited to Kentucky Trails)
