Standard 2: Coach teachers in and model design and implementation of technology-enhanced learning experiences addressing content standards and student technology standards.

Reflection: During this course, I had the great opportunity to work with a team to develop the first entry (below). It was a pleasure to work with a team who worked well together and shared responsibility. Another member of our team took the lead position and it was a good experience for me to let that happen. I am usually the lead on most projects and it was good to get the feeling of being a member of a team that had a strong leader with members who worked well together. Together, we put together an extensive Web 2.0 professional development course that included both formative and summative assessments. The unit contains research and structure that could easily be broken down into chunks to either hold a short PD class or break the course down into several meetings with time in between to develop lessons, bringing questions and ideas back to the larger group.

Another valuable tool that I found in this course was the Universal Design for Learning (UDL). In the past, I had heard of universal design, however I have never seen a free tool as effective as the UDL book at Cast.org. Since learning about this tool to assist students with disabilities or students who speak English as a second language. My second two entries are books that I created for this class. First, is a professional development tool that shares research tools for using technology to promote higher order thinking skills, the second is a short unit designed to support the regular English / Language Arts curriculum. It contains interactive activities to help students recognize and practice using poetic elements or devices. Both of these books may change over time as I seek feedback from peers and put both books to use.

Entry: Web 2.0 for You Professional Development Course (Team Project)

Entry: UDL Book -Using Technology to Promote Higher Order Thinking Skills

Entry: UDL Book - linked to various activities - "Cookin' with Poetry" (Junior High School Language Arts)

Proficiencies: Although the 3 links above represent proficiency in several areas, the two items below are the backbone of curriculum design. As I move through my coursework at NAU and in my professional practice, I expect both of these links to show changes that reflect deeper understanding as I apply the concepts represented in the presentations.
