Kunmong Bottom Up Primary School is situated in a remote area that has strong connections to its traditional owners.
Our school recognises the importance of acknowledging the history of the Ganiga people, the traditional owners, who live approximately 10 kilometres South-West from Mount Hagen town, in the areas of Lower Nebilyer (scattered valley, formally recognized as Kilima and Kaugimb coffee plantations) known internationally from a documentary series by the Australian film-maker Bob Connolly for his trilogy, "First Contact", "Joe Leahy's Neighbours" and "Black Harvest". Indigenously known as KUNMONG (Ganiga people), comprising of Ulgumb, Kundulumb, Yamkamb, Kundulga, and Ulga clans.
Students outside the traditional hut classroom in 2018.
In 2012, Kunmong elementary school was established at Kuangamb. The first buildings were known as "Komapang" because this was funded by the "Koma pang Association" after 2010 of its establishment. In 2015, the facilities were extended so the primary school by our faithful pioneer Teacher SAMUEL WAN, He then set up as founder and established the first intake of year 3 pupils.
During 2016, lessons were held in the traditional hut, while additional classrooms were built. Fortunately, Students flooded in, with over-populated, insufficient facilities.. I am (SAMUEL WAN) in desperate need of facilities like classrooms and other basic immediate needs to accommodate and cater for students who are hungry for Education.
