Migratory Decisions
For my master's project and the work stemming from it, I investigated how energetic condition and other factors influence departure and directional decisions of songbirds on stopover. During fall migration, I studied the behavior and physiology of migrants at Schoodic Peninsula in Acadia National Park, Maine. During spring migration, I studied the migrants at the Appledore Island Migration Station in Maine.
Release Tests:
For these studies, I wanted to investigate the departure and directional behaviors of migrants without having to keep them in captivity during the behavioral observations. To do so, I modified methods from Able and Terrill (1987) and performed "release tests" on migrants. See the description of how to use this method here.
