Welcome to the 2023-2024 popcorn fundraiser!
How are the proceeds distributed?
Of what is sold, 38% comes back to Troop 40 (35% for online sales). 19% of these funds go directly to the scout doing the fundraising, in the form of individual scout accounts. Another 35% goes to Minsi Trails Council. In total, 73% of the price is a donation back to local scouting organizations.
So what is a scout account? Think of it as a bank account specific to scouting... From what each scout raises in funds, all is directed into his/her Scout Account. These funds are available to be used for things such as summer camp, scout events, dues, pack shirt purchases, and Scout Shop purchases. This means that your scout can be earning $38/hour in funds that go directly to support his scouting activities, in addition to the funds he/she is raising to support Minsi Trails Council and Troop 40. YOU control how scout account funds are used.
Sales Goals:
Below are the goals you and your Scout should strive for. At these levels, no other fundraising would be required for the rest of this year.
* $750 per scout
* $12,000 as a Troop
Scouts should be able to achieve the individual level by participating in 8 Show & Sell shifts, or less if he/she takes orders as well. This essentially means that we are asking each scout to dedicate 8 hours over the next three months for this fundraiser.

- Scouts may sign up for more than one shift per day. Young scouts may only be able to handle one hour, while the youngest scouts may not be ready - use your discretion.
- Sales are split across all shifts for all events. This is slightly different from years past, but is being done to ensure that the hard work of all the scouts is recognized regardless of which sale they sign up for. The average shift was $86 in 2022.
- Adult help is needed for each booth. Your scout will receive an additional share of sales based on each shift you sign up and assist with. Adult shifts are 3 hours.
- Adults helping will need to take Youth Protection Training (this course is approximately one hour and is found at https://my.scouting.org).
- Show & Sells may be cancelled if there is not enough adult help for that day. Show & Sells later in the calendar may be cancelled or hours adjusted based on availability of product.
Show & Deliver / Take Order:
We may schedule Show & Delivers, in which we carry popcorn with us and do local door to door sales. Regardless of whether we do so together, you are welcome (and encouraged!) to do so on your own. Inventory can be signed out at any meeting to do so.
Selling door-to-door, with or without inventory, is the most effective method. This averages $100 per hour in sales. Remember to ask for a military donation of any amount (the mobile app allows for any denomination), and remind the customer of the delivery date (by mid-November, if not earlier).
Online:
You have the ability to create a personal profile for your scout on ordering.campmasters.org and direct Facebook friends and out-of-town family to it. The product is shipped directly to the customer. Prices are slightly higher, but there are also different products available. This year shipping is free.
Let’s kick off this scout year with a fantastic sale!
