Dr. Kyle P. Edmonds, MD FAAHPM (he/him), is a Clinical Professor of Palliative Medicine and Chief of Academic Affairs in the Division of Geriatrics, Gerontology, and Palliative Care of the Department of Medicine at UC San Diego Health Sciences. He is an expert in team-based, specialist palliative care, which focuses on maximizing quality of life for people with serious, life-threatening illness. He completed fellowship training at the prestigious Institute for Palliative Medicine at San Diego Hospice and is dual-board certified in Family Medicine and Hospice & Palliative Medicine. He has been a hospital-based, consulting palliative medicine specialist at UC San Diego Health since 2013, holding many roles in health system, quality improvement, and academic leadership.
Among his leadership roles in organized medicine, Dr. Edmonds is a Board member of the American Academy of Hospice & Palliative Medicine and the San Diego County Medical Society. He Chairs the Council on Membership, Governance, & Bylaws of the California Medical Association and the Health Policy & Advocacy Strategic Coordinating Committee of the American Academy of Hospice & Palliative Medicine. In 2022 and 2024, he was awarded the Gerald H. Holman Distinguished Service Award by AAHPM and was recognized in 2022 with the Excellence in Faculty Mentorship Award by the UCSD Department of Medicine.
Dr. Edmonds lives in San Diego with his partner, Dr. Lasé Ajayi.
