DIGITAL IP DEVELOPMENT
Generally not limited to any particular field the students are encouraged to study various up-coming standards in the field of digital communication, networking, video compression etc. to suggest improvement in the existing algorithms and suggest optimal digital designs for faster and reliable hardware designs. In the next step the developed IP is verified in various hardware/ software IP verification environments. Third party IP verification is also conducted in order to provide IP verification facility to other universities and organizations. During last few years VLSI lab members have been working in development of verification environment for both digital and hardware-software co-design based embedded systems.
SOC DEVELOPMENT
Along with the conventional definition of embedded systems the students are encouraged to design and develop hardware - software co-design solution for various more reliable and optimal design of existing systems. The primary steps involved are modeling the system for describing hardware and software components (specification), system design (hardware-software partitioning) and performance analysis and co-design verification. The students explore various design methodologies to develop faster and optimal solution and are encouraged to develop and suggest new methodologies for faster prototyping and co-verification environment development.
SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT
In past few years the major concern of VLSI lab has been to act as a bridge between academic and industrial fraternity. Motivated by the need to facilitate direct technology transfer from the research bed to the industrial application the VLSI lab has been working towards development of complete system for the various communication and networking standards and consumer applications. The process spans from choosing appropriate algorithm for the desired functionality to development of final prototype for industrial testing. The SoC development allows the student to understand the industry requirement in a more apt fashion, providing then to gain in-house experience of project development.
