The Temples

Kodaganallur is blessed with five temples:

Shri Nangaiyar Amman temple

Shri Nangaiyar Amman is the legendary ellaikkaaval deivam  in the village.  The powers of Goddess Shakti here are widely known.  Devotees vouch for miracles happening in Her presence.Adjacent to this temple is a lily pond (tamarai kuLam).

Shri Kailasanathar Temple

One of the navakailasa-s, this temple is a sevvai kshetram.  Any invocations to the Mars graham can be performed here.  Thekumbabhishekam of this temple was conducted on a grand scale on 17 March 2006.  Thousands of devotees participated with full religious fervour and spirit.Soon to come: Pictures of the kumbabhishekam. 

Shri Bruhanmadhava Temple (Periyapiran temple)

An ancient temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu.  Read more about the documented history of the temple here and on folklore, here.The moolavar in the temple is known by the name "Bruhanmadhava".  He has two consorts, Bhumi and Neela.  Theutsavar is Lord Ranganatha, also with two consorts.  There is an exclusive sannidhi  for Swami Desikan and the annualBrahmotsavam festival has been revived since this year.  The samprokshanam of this temple was performed on June 11, 2003 with great religious fervour.A phot-story of this momentous event is available at the bottom of this page.Shri Abhimuktesvarar Temple

Another ancient temple, where kumbabhishekam was done some ten years ago, on the banks of the other padithurai for the Tamiraparni.

Soundaryanayaki Ambal, has a separate sannidi as also Shri Subramanya.

Shri Mukkuruni Pillaiyar

A huge Ganesha, under a peepal tree, with no roof until recently.  His benevolence to devotees is legendary.

Shri Shankara Math

This is said to be among the first branches of Sri Sringeri Math to be established in Tamilnadu.

The structure is in dire need of care and maintenance.  However, it is now being cared for to a large extent by benevolent natives of the village.
